I bought it and now I find it does not open NEF files and gives me an error message saying it cannot load Its the latest version and I did update it from the earlier trial version once I bought it. I wonder if that changed something. I’ve used capture nx2 with my D4 raw files with no problems.
Do you get the same error message when you import jpeg images? I’d delete and the reload the program. Greg, I had a similar issue a while back and, after some possible cause investigation, I found out that the actual culprit was Windows 7, which somehow was blocking the normal operation of Capture NX2 and View NX2 from opening some NEF files curiously, not all of them, only the most recent ones. In my case, the solution was to set both Capture NX2 and View NX2 to run ‘as Administrator’ go to each program properties window and check the ‘run as administrator’ checkbox.
Hope this helps. After install you need to download the latest version from the Nikon website to read the NEFs of the latest cameras. I did download the latest updates for both and they were originally working when I had Capture as a trial. It got reloaded when I bought it so perhap the run as administrator thing is the culprit. I followed the suggestions here and it worked. Specifically deleting Capture NX2 and reloading it and reupdating it. I may have ticked a box about choice of colour display which may have caused a problem.

Nevermind, I found on it Nikon’s website, I just hope that update didn’t count as one of the 2 installations, I was wondering where in the program I can see what version I’m running, I don’t see it properties or in the program itself This is just an option that may work, however we still recommend the raw file viewer from the camera’s own software which is usually provided by the manufacturer.

NX2 opens it as a black window with ‘ updating image ‘ at the top while listing as I reported this in the past and support told me NX2 will not work in Windows 10, don’t believe it, and to use Capture NX-D which after hours I found out that it does not do a file save to make a JPEG which will be the end result of my project. I going to try using Nikon transfer again to make NEFs in a new folder or maybe convert them to Jpegs but I much rather have all the data to work with.
