Dell audio manager windows 10.Removing Dell Audio Driver

I’m using a Dell Inspiron laptop that is out of warranty. I found out that when using headphones I can adjust the volume for the left and right earpieces in Windows To do so, I had to uninstall the Dell Audio driver to allow Windows to take over. But, with Windows Update set to automatic, the Dell driver gets downloaded and installed. The Dell driver has no provision for setting headset earpieces individually.

With one ear worse than other, I cannot set volume at a comfortable level for the good ear and listen to anything in stereo half disappears nearly completely.

How can I keep Windows update from reinstalling the Dell audio driver? Any insights will be appreciated. Okay, here goes. Initially, when opening the Dell Audio Sound Manager, it wasn’t obvious that the speaker levels could be changed individually. I’d decided to remove it and just go with the Windows generic drivers.

I was able to get into the properties for the speakers and using the Levels tab, make my adjustments. Then, Windows update downloaded the Dell drivers and installed it.

I ended up back where I had started since the installation went back to the default setting. In the properties box, select tab for Levels. This opens a box allowing for adjustment. What happened was that while I could find the way to making the adjustment in Windows with the generic driver, the Dell driver program wasn’t so obvious.

Yep, left ear is that bad. Not wanting to blow out good ear, reducing volume essentially muted the sound. Took a couple of minutes to figure that one out. To summarize, the problem wasn’t the driver per se, just lack of documentation and trial and error to figure out how to do a task.
