Forgive my lack of correct term usage. I go to my Desktop. I click on “Word” icon. The blank microsofft appears per usual, but the toolbar or task bar at the top is microsooft. All the little icons, poof! In the past, I would click on the first one for a new Document, I would click on the second one, which was mjcrosoft image of a page with a corner bent, for existing files or documents. I store letters, hand made invoices, cut and pasted news articles, etc. I know how to open a new Microsoft word 2013 ribbon keeps disappearing free download and I know how to open existing documents, and that’s about all I used from that top tool bar.

Anyway, the whole bar is gone. I ribgon around on Settings and Control Panel, but it is beyond my abilities to figure out what on earth happened. Someone please help! Thanks in advance! Word Ribbon won’t stay on selected tab. – Microsoft Community

It cost me 20 minutes to find a solution to the following issue when I first used a newly installed copy of Office in Word and maybe in other Office apps , as soon as I started to edit a document, the ribbon vanished. It would come back if I clicked near the top of the screen, but then vanish again as soon as I tried to edit.

Online, there are many threads going back many years about some version of this issue, with many different answers that don’t work for Office But the issue is easy to solve once you know where to look.

When the ribbon is displayed, look over in the top right corner: going from right to left, you should see icons to close the document, maximize, minimize, and, finally, an icon which turns out to represent Ribbon Display Options. If you see three dots instead of the icon for Ribbon Display Options, click on the dots, and that icon should be the one on the left. Click on that, and then click on Show Tabs and Commands. I have Office on two different machines, and on the one that I’ve been using for several months, the default was to keep the ribbon up, so it came as a surprise when the ribbon disappeared on this new installation.

I have no idea why it’s different for two installation of the same software. Nope, it’s over there top right in a tiny, non-descript icon. But at least it’s easy to change once you find it.

My Ribbon Toolbar in Word disappeared. How to restore it? – Microsoft Community

It looks like this:. This is the nice collection of editing tools that allows you to make your Word documents look the way you want them to look. And for most people, these icons and menus are accessed all the time — so you probably want that ribbon to always be there. But sometimes it disappears, and the top of your Word document looks like this:. Getting that ribbon back is easy. I told you it was easy! If you would prefer to click on something with your mouse, look in the top right corner of your Word document window.

So if you click that little icon, it makes the Word ribbon disappear, and the icon is then pointing downward. So you know if your ribbon is gone, you can click on the down-pointing icon to make the ribbon come back on display. In fact, if you want to play a little joke on someone, wait until they are away from their computer, then go over and make their ribbon disappear.
