I have all the latest Windows and drivers updates installed. Since last week, when I click “Shut Down” through the windows icon in the lower left hand side, the screen will shut off but all the components of the laptop are still running it’s still warm, processor is still running, keyboard light is on.

The only way to get it to shut down at that point is the hard shutdown. I booted the system in Safe Mode and tried shutting it down the same way. The same thing happened, only this time the screen froze on the “Shutting Down” icon that came up on the screen. Had to do a hard shutdown. I’ve tried a lot of the stuff I’ve seen in other threads including changing the power options, uninstalling the graphics driver, and updating all drivers.

Please help me solve this issue! I don’t like having to hard shutdown my computer all the time. Thank you. Was this reply helpful? Yes No. Sorry this didn’t help. Thanks for your feedback. Thank you for your thorough post. I tried most of the things that you posted and decided to just go ahead and do the clean install. I actually tried the same thing on a different laptop and got the same error message so I assume it’s something wrong with the USB.

What do you suggest? Could you take a look at my reply re: the error when trying to do clean install? Thank you! Choose where you want to search below Search Search the Community. Start with Step 4 to turn off Startup freeloaders which can conflict and cause issues, then Step 7 to check for infection the most thorough way, then step 10 to check for damaged System Files. Then continue with the other steps to go over your install most thoroughly. This solves many problems and will also bring it up to the latest version which you need anyway and by the most stable method.

But remember that in Windows 10 everything depends upon the quality of the install, and Factory or Upgrade installs are inferior installs which most enthusiasts won’t even run because they’d expect endless issues. I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and let us know how it goes. I will keep working with you until it’s resolved.
